These quick and easy overnight oats combine the classic pairing of cinnamon and apple with a breakfast staple that can be enjoyed hot or cold. They are adaptable and could be tweaked to suit your desires.

Old-fashioned rolled oats are the best types of oats to use for this recipe. They deliver both the creaminess of oatmeal and also some texture through the overnight rest. Instant oats quickly turn mushy and steel cut oats end up very chewy and dense.

These overnight oats are great after two hours though if you can, wait a few more.

  • 1/2 cup old fashioned oats

  • 1/2 small apple (cored and diced, about 1/3 cup)

Tips

  • If you like the oats creamier, add some more milk, yogurt ,or both.
  • Use different spices—a pinch of pumpkin spice, cloves and nutmeg, or vanilla as you like.
  • You can increase the quantities to make a large batch. Store in individual jars or in an airtight container where it'll keep for up to five days.

Recipe Variations

  • Some like it cold, and others like it hot—heat up if you like.
  • Feel free to use your favorite milk or milk alternative to make them.
  • Add your favorite dried fruits and nuts into the base mix before you soak. You'll need to add extra liquid if you do that.
