Pizza is definitely high on the list of fun party foods and a must-have for watching sports. But, when you have a large group gathering, ordering in several pies from the local pizza place can get expensive and making your own can be time consuming. Sure, we love a homemade pizza crust, but sometimes we want those pizza flavors without all of the work.

Turning the beloved pizza into sliders, however, is quick, easy and, best of all, completely delicious. It's also a great activity to do with kids since assembling the mini sandwiches is a fun and simple cooking project that little ones can handle with no problem.

The choice of bread for the sliders is totally up to you, but this recipe uses mini brioche rolls—the enriched buttery dough has a wonderfully light texture and flavor. The filling here is pepperoni, but—just like the dish it's inspired by—the sliders can be completely customized so that veggie lovers can have peppers, broccoli, or mushrooms and the meat lovers can have sausage or cooked ground beef.

Of course, it doesn't have to be a party to make pizza sliders. In fact, this recipe comes together so quickly that it's a great choice for a quick dinner on those busy nights when you get home late and still want a homemade meal. Serve these with a big salad or a bowl of your favorite hot soup and you have a complete dinner in a hurry. Considering how delicious these pizza sliders are, we're certain your family will be asking you to make this again and again!

Ingredients

  • 12 slider rolls

  • 2 ounces (4 tablespoons) unsalted butter, melted

  • 2 tablespoons grated Parmesan cheese, or Romano cheese

  • 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano

  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder

  • 1 cup pizza sauce

  • 36 to 48 slices pepperoni

  • 1 1/2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese

  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh basil

Steps to Make It

  1. Gather the ingredients. Preheat the oven to 400 F.

  2. In a small bowl, combine the melted butter, Parmesan or Romano cheese, dried oregano, and garlic powder.

  3. Slice the slider rolls in half, place the bottom halves on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, and brush with half of the melted butter mixture.

  4. Top each of the bottom halves with a heaping spoonful of the tomato sauce, followed by the shredded mozzarella cheese, three or four pieces of the pepperoni, and a pinch of the chopped basil.

  5. Top the sliders with the other half of the buns and brush with the remaining melted butter mixture.

  6. Bake the tray of sliders for 10 to 12 minutes or until the cheese has melted.

  7. Serve hot and enjoy!

Tip

  • You can prep the sliders a day or two ahead of time and wrap them tightly with plastic wrap so that they don't get stale. Refrigerate them until you are ready to bake.
  • This recipe is for 12 sliders, but you can easily make a double batch for a large crowd or if you know your guests will eat more than two each.
