      Overall very pleased with this product. However this is our 2nd one.

      Pros: folds up very small, compact, lightweight, cool springloaded button on the handle for quickly opening and closing the umbrella. I carry it my work bag and it adds a negligible amount of weight.
      Cons: a bit flimsy. The metal support holding the canopy open snapped pretty easily and made the whole thing useless once that happened. We replaced it with a new one and so far so good. The light weight comes at the expense of pretty thin metal in a few critical places. Also, the button to open/close it is a little stiff in case you have arthritic thumbs (which I do not).

      So this review is coming 10 years after I bought my umbrella. I was recently helping plan for a backpacking trip to Europe and I went back through my purchase history in 2014 to share some items I bought that I thought were the most helpful items I bought back then and used on my first international backpacking trip. A lot of the stuff I bought after lots of online research I ended up not needing, some of it broke or I found other ways to do things but I will tell you that the only thing other than a good microfiber travel towel that I absolutely recommend is this specific umbrella. I took this thing to Europe for a month on a winter backpacking trip and it saved my bacon a couple times. Took it to China where I lived for two years and used it frequently there. I've now had it in Chicago and it's still sitting by the door when I need it for local use in the city or for my international trips. It's still in great shape. I had one little corner where the thread that held it onto the umbrella frame broke but I was able to have someone sew that back on for a few bucks in China and I probably could have done it myself with a needle and thread. That repair was years ago and it's still going strong. I'm shocked I haven't lost it at this point and that it's lasted this long.
