Small/light/versatile stove worthy of EDC

- Reviewed in the United States on April 29, 2018Great stove - the capillary hoop design is the fastest to bloom and boil of the dozen alky stoves I've used and outperforms my Trangia. Pint boils in <6min/20mls. The jets direct inward and so can be used with small diameter pots like the Nalgene-nesting Toaks 750 Ti pot I prefer. Little bigger than a golf ball in size, but being hollow, it can be stuffed and represent virtually zero incremental volume. Paired with a tinfoil screen and Evernew Cross Stand (also near zero volume) and it's easily pocket size. Hollow cup with interior jets is easy to fill up, recover unused fuel, dry out, and snuffs out with pot bottom (use a micro binder clip to handle red hot Cross Stand). Easy to light in 0F temps by tipping alcohol to the edge and warming it with lighter, or toss a pinch of cotton ball in (down feather size) and hit it with a ferro rod spark. Flip the Evernew Cross Stand upside down, and it will partially suffocated the burn - effectively a simmer mode. 20 ml will now boil a pint in 12mins, and continue to slow boil it for another 8min for a 20min total burn time. Add a tincan lid and wick and you have a alcohol candle that will burn 1-1:30 hr per 20ml. Put the candle in your pot with a little water in the bottom (for tip over safety) and you have a safe Palmer Survival Furnace (google it) that I enjoy for a little camp luxury on a cold evening/morning. Someone mentioned 'unstable' due to small size, but that easily resolved by using a flat rock, or 2 parallel twigs (eg for snow) - IMHO, it's a easier to stabilize a small stove, than to make a large stove compact for carrying.
So small/light/versatile - I EDC it!
EDIT: New picture added for smallest EDC config - empty toilet paper roll size, 4.9oz weight (w/3 fl.oz. fuel). Didn't mention it above, but if you use 190 grain alcohol (eg, Everclear), you also get dehydrated vodka, hand sanitizer/mouthwash/deodorant, pot/utensil solvent/cleaner/sterilizer, first aid prep, etc.
EDIT #2: The strong thermal feedback of this stove, which allows instant blooming and good winter performance, also can vaporize ‘low octane’ fuels like 70% rubbing alcohol and 151 proof booze quite cleanly. Just use the winter start method mentioned above. Opens more fuel options in a pinch.

Images in this review - Reviewed in the United States on September 26, 2023Super light and compact. Burns 1 oz of fuel for about 11 minutes. Blooms almost instantaneously. It is a little pricey but works really well. Caution: it does not work well with the Toaks pot holder with the horizontal pegs. The heat warps the pegs. You cannot use a cross pot holder on it because it is too unstable.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 18, 2024This is an awesome stove! I typically use a twig stove. I started using this stove when it's raining. It's light, works great and doesn't cause unnecessary waste.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 2, 2015What attracted me to this stove is it seemed to be similar to well designed aluminum can stoves I had seen made on YouTube. It's design does seem to be a great combination of heat vs fuel efficiency. I would say somewhere between the Trangia and Evernew on both accounts.
The quality is good, but not great. One of the jets on mine was not fully drilled out making it 1/2 the size of the rest. While "baby jet" was cute the small flame there bothered me so I fixed it with a pushpin. No big deal.
The real issue is how it seems a bit unstable on anything but truly level platforms like a table. Being narrow and a bit tall, it is the least stable stove I have seen. Trangia, Esbit and Evernew make stoves that are wider and less tall. Furthermore they firmly slot into specially made pot stands/supports that provide an even wider base. Having perfectly flat sides precludes attaching this to a firebox or similar stove with the adjustable stands. Since it seems a bit unsteady one needs to perfectly level out some dirt if they want to place it directly on the ground or find a stand that will work with it.
Too bad Toaks doesn't have a small stand made for this stove. That would probably be a great combo.
It is super tiny and super lightweight so maybe if the Evernew is too large for your purposes, this might be a good fit. Otherwise, I would suggest going with another option.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 7, 2021Purchased this for backcountry camping on my motorcycle. It packs really small and blooms in seconds if using de-natured alcohol. Great to boil water if using the Toaks stand or something with identical height to maximize the bloom. The stand is another expense, but it works. Im sure there are other options and I bet a thru hiker would be best suited to advise what works better. I just need something that wont get destroyed on the bike if I dump it on some rocks and the panniers get crushed. Some folks provide tests on the geeky details and they are really great. Just look it up on the inter-webs. For me I think it all depends on your altitude, fuel type and temperature for what I will use each trip. Just do some research. There are other options, but I like this because its super simple and with it being titanium, it will last for a lifetime of abuse Good value for money due to durability and light weight which I need.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 25, 2023Nice little stove! I use a lot of alcohol stoves and I really like this stove. Very fuel efficient, also blooms instantly. I use a couple of types of pot stands with this stove including the toaks titanium pot stand with the tent pegs and it works great. If you are going to use cross stand’s I don’t recommend the evernew crossstand. It’s just to slow. Lixada makes a titanium cross stand if you can find them still ans they work excellent. I’m talking about the regular lixada cross stand, not the one that goes with the lixada siphon stove. Anyway, just buy it, you won’t regret it and it will probably last the rest of your life.

5.0 out of 5 stars Nice burner
The Toaks siphon burner is extremely light, small and powerful. It blooms almost immediately and really cranks out the heat. I think it’s a bit greedy compared to a Trangia burner and you have no simmer control. Fuel recovery is very easy, just pour it back into your bottle. A windscreen of some sort and pot stand are must haves for this burner. I’m glad I bought it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Ich habe den einmal ganz neu mit anderen Zubehör von meinen alten kocher in Einsatz
The media could not be loaded.

1.0 out of 5 stars Poorly made junk. Didn't work.
I put this away and didn't test it until it was too late to return it. It was very poorly made. Some of the jets were not properly drilled out and the burner failed to bloom. It simply flared high with a loud hissing noise and burned out in about 5 minutes without bringing a canteen cup full of water to a boil. Don't waste your money!
