Icon Headlamp
Back and better than ever, the Icon Headlamp is Black Diamond's most powerful headlamp for alpinists, climbers, trail runners, and adventurers pushing it before dawn and after dusk. The Icon is packed with one QuadPower LED spotlight and one DoublePower white LED for a powerful punch of 500 lumens with optional brightness memory—providing visibility for up to 360 feet into the darkness ahead of you.
Red, green, and blue night vision modes accommodate everything from nighttime reading in your bivy to lacing up your boot liners at three in the morning. New this year is the removable battery pack, which is easy to stash in a pocket to preserve battery life when temperatures drop. The rugged, dustproof, and fully-sealed housing is waterproof up to 1 meter for 30 minutes with no maintenance needed after submersion, which is more than you can say for your climbing partner.

Really bright, but also really big
This is one big headlamp! It provides a ton of light and lots of customization features. Super helpful during long power outages, but too heavy to take along on a trail run or backpacking trip.

Decent Headlamp
This headlamp is ok. Unfortunately, it’s excessively large and isn’t as bright as I expected for the size.

Fantastic light
I've owned this light and used it extensively for the last 6 years, and it has never disappointed me. It is one of the brightest headlamps on the market, has more than enough run time, and uses common batteries ( AA). The only thing that may be a turnoff to some, is the sheer number of possible settings. Between white, red, flood, the variable brightness, and the lockout, there is a lot of learning to do as it is all controlled by a single button. Overall, 9/10 light. Worth every cent.

BD Headlamp Icon 500
- Familiarity:
- I returned this product before using it
complete piece of garbage. absolute junk. the plastic piece that holds the headband to the battery pack broke while I was putting it together. if Black Diamond gear can't survive the rigors of assembly while sitting at my dining room table how's it going to perform when your keister is on the line in the actual wilderness. I've had other experiences with poor quality stuff from BD in regards to their back packs and other headlamps of theirs. I should have learned my lesson. Caveat emptor when buying BD products. Having said that I own old BD C 4 cams that I love. They were made in the mid 2000's so maybe their quality control process was more robust back then

Not sure what I was expecting
- Familiarity:
- I've used it several times
- Size Bought:
- one
- Height:
- 5' 10"
- Weight:
- 130
The price was $50 which was "50% off" I bought this headlamp thinking I was getting a great deal. First off it is very heavy at over 8 ounces with batteries. It is nice to be able to situate the batteries at your hips rather than your head so that is a plus. I love the red mode and how once you learn the functions its not hard to cycle through. Black diamond makes very reliable products so I don't expect it to falter anytime soon. All and all I would not recommend this UNLESS you do serious night hiking. Otherwise you are better off with either the black diamond spot headlamps or a nitecore for 3oz

Pressed Into Bike Touring With Amazing Results
The versatility, comfort, and durabilityof this product prompted me to use it for bike touring and then quickly transition to setting up camp. All of the different modes allows me to adjust to a variety of weather conditions and allows to to see and be seen at all times. The batter pack allows for quick battery changes and it's efficiency keeps me from worrying about the lights going out. Paired with lithium ion batteries the quad AA pack weighs almost nothing.

One issue
Had this given to me as a birthday gift and I love it and it worked great for the first couple of times but I can’t seem to get the main beam from the colour red now. I press the button once like it says and all i gets is a red faint light. Am I doing something wrong. All the other functions work great. Just can’t get the main beam and I really need it !!

Great futures!!!!
I bought this model 3 years ago in Costa Rica for worh (music touring industry) and suddenly stopped working, checked batteries and cable, all looks good, it worked perfect for show business, do the light bulbs have replacements? Or what could be working wrong?

Advertised beam distance incorrect
- Familiarity:
- I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
- Height:
- 6' 3"
- Weight:
- 190
The advertised 110-meter beam distance, in reality, is closer to 20 meters on a full battery. 20 meters is a generous estimate. I hike, scramble, and climb at night in the Pacific Northwest. Most nights have overcast clouds that block moonlight. Without a light, I can't see my hand in front of my face. A reliable spotlight is vital to off-trail route-finding. While I trust this the robust build quality and battery longevity, the light emitted is insufficient for dedicated nighttime travel.
