From the Author
I was really struck by the idea of saving a moment, a memory and pinning it on a page. So that was the basic idea for the book. I made a list of all the different types of experiences you have on holiday and developed it from there.
As the theme of mindfulness is central to the book, it was very important that book 'walks the walk'...so I contacted Neil Kerfoot at the charity Village by Village to see if we could work with them. They were more than happy to partner with us and "You are here - a mindful travel journal" supports the Clean Hands Saves Lives project. For me, this made beautiful sense; such a simple idea of washing your hands is a good fit for the simple mindfulness practice of simply breathing. I'm honoured and delighted to be working with Village by Village - they do amazing work with remote villages in Ghana. They build wells, schools, clinics, sanitation facilities and genuinely make a massive different to the lives of the Ghanian villagers.
10% of the profits of this book go to Village by Village.

- Reviewed in the United States on December 5, 2017Although I am still writing in this journal as my trip isn't for another two months, it does offer a chapter to work on in preparation. (as well as chapters for the trip itself and follow up afterwards) The content within is great and definitely gets me thinking of ideas to write down. There is plenty of space to write, draw, paste pictures and make the journal your own. With the limited ability to find single trip travel journals, I was happy to find this one. I look forward to filling it up!
- Reviewed in the United States on September 8, 2018I bought a few journals and this one, while maybe a little more simple (looks-wise) than the others, was the one that tugged at my heartstrings the most. I gave this to my daughter the night before her study abroad trip to Spain. I wrote little notes all throughout the journal as a little surprise she will see while journaling. This journal has some great, thought provoking questions which is what really sold me on it. It's also amusing at times without being overdone or cheesey.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 14, 2016I ordered this journal for an 11y/o girl and liked it okay, but didn't feel like it was appropriate for her age. It is more geared toward adults as there is some more mature content in the form of humor. For example, one of the statements said something like "if you wake up drunk in a jail cell wearing a clown costume that smells like ponies, that is your business." There was another comment about self-flaggelation and that if you pack an instrument of self-flaggelation in your luggage, that is your business. If you don't mind these types of comments, it is a neat little journal and is thought provoking - encourages you to really be in the present moment and appreciate it and reflect upon it. Gives plenty of space to write and add drawings or doodles. Most of the pages are unlined, so give you freedom to be a little more creative.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 22, 2017I've suffered from depression on and off for a long time and have come a long way in the last 6 months when I started therapy for some recent issues. I also get some secondary anxiety and indecision issues to go along with it. I'm planning a road trip all across the united states to last a couple months for this coming summer and bought this journal as a travel companion to help me guide myself. I cracked it open a few weeks ago while I'm still in the planning phase and it is perfect! Lots of space for doodling, thought logging, guided mindfulness exercises, beginners meditation walkthroughs, areas to help you prep for your trip where you can stick ticket stubs, write contact numbers, etc. And all this stuff is prompted for you. I mean this thing is beyond perfect. Got me started on some meditation exercises and has really helped me maintain a calm demeanor. I'm so excited to fill it up when I'm traveling.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 18, 2017It's a cute journal but has way to many things that I didn't need. It gives you prompts for things to write but it seemed almost childish. Very flimsy cover.
I used it for my Italy trip and it served the purpose but a notebook would have been just as good.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 31, 2019Love this journal. It contains pages with titles and things to think about prior to your journey, while on your journey and after the journey is over. Provided suggestions for thoughtful entries. I used this on a major international trip and was glad I did. I would buy this again for another out of the country adventure.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 25, 2019I bought this for my friend who is a missionary to another country. It’s such a cute book! There’s tons of fun questions about where you have traveled. It’s not all writing, some of it has drawing aspects to it which keeps the journaling fun an exciting.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 20, 2017I am a very frequent cruiser with almost 300 days in three years. How many ports and sea days have I breezed through going through the motions of regular travel, although fun, but some of those memories were lost due to not being "present". This is such a unique way to remind you to be in the moment of your vacation. I'm not one for looking for the "spiritual" side of travel but I took a chance on purchasing this book. It was so much more fun than a record of your daily trip activities and I'm going to get another one when I go on my next adventure. I wish that they offered this book in a spiral bound version also so it would lay flat. It was harder to use because it kept wanting to close when I was doing my "artsy" thing. Buy it, you'll like it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Will buy again.
BEST journal I could have asked for. The prompts were perfect and so much space for my own ideas and mementos. I like this product. Will buy again.

4.0 out of 5 stars Inspirational
This book is not blank, but divided into sections, asking questions and inspires you to write about different experiences (sights, smells, sounds... ) I find these a lot easier than just to fill in blank pages. The cover feels weird and sticky. Would buy this again for another trip.

5.0 out of 5 stars A really good idea...
We’ve all stared at maps. We’ve all found the little ‘you are here’ logo and thought ‘yes I know I am... but where am I?’
Well this ‘You Are Here’ is very similar. Essentially it’s a travel diary, but it’s so much more. It nudges you to be ‘mindful’. Indeed ‘mindfulness’ is a state which the author encourages. An awareness of any given moment, coupled with the realisation that this moment is unique to you. It’s a transient state by definition, but one which can be repeated over and over. As Uncle Bulgaria might have said, it will have you ‘making good use of the things that you find’.
You see, the book can be serious one minute and irreverent the next. It has moments of humour to titillate you on one page and moments of karma on the next. So, why not throw in a Womble reference in a book review? It’s what I thought of in that moment, and it’s just the sort of thing the author is encouraging you to do. It doesn’t matter whether you want to write existential prose or a limerick about a waste paper bin, it’s whatever that moment brings. ‘Deface me’ the book suggests, if that’s how you feel...
This book will bring out the ‘you’ in you. Whether it’s reflecting over something that’s just happened, succumbing to the need to swear about the blister on your heel, or describing something about that bloke in the cafe opposite – the one with stubble like Desperate Dan, who’s holding an espresso in one hand and scratching his backside with a plastic fork with the other.
Who knows what the moment will bring? What you can be sure of is that ‘You are Here’ is a journal which will help you to record it.
This is a wonderful concept for a book. If you’re going on your travels make sure you get a copy. It will bring your diary to life and put you in touch with yourself far more than a blank sheet of paper with the date on top.
This book tells you it’s an ‘analogue antidote to a digital world’. It is just that, so much more fun than yet another dubious app! Great idea Emma Clarke.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great gift idea for any keen traveller!
Bought as a gift for a friend going on first travel adventures, but I think I will be buying myself one fo my next backpacking trip....had some really good (and original) ideas, helpful prompts and suggestions to really make sure you remember to be 'in the moment'...which we can sometimes forget when stressing about flight times/paperwork/money and all the other worries travelling can bring!
